DIVISIONS AND CLINICAL SERVICES

  • Diagnostic Radiology

Diagnostic Radiology provides complete outpatient and inpatient services which include:

    - MRI. This procedure utilizes a magnet and radio waves to produce high-quality cross-sectional images of organs and structures that may not be well visualized using other imaging modalities. MRI allows physicians to examine the size, shape and function of an organ or body part. Some patients, especially children, undergoing this procedure require sedation and are carefully monitored during the procedure.

    - CT. CT images are produced by an x-ray beam that demonstrates organs and other internal structures cross sectionally, providing additional detail and information to the clinician.

    - Ultrasonography. Ultrasound utilizes sound waves to produce images. This procedure allows the visualization of blood flowing through the veins and arteries as well as a wide range of anatomic structures, including abdominal organs, the thyroid gland, the parathyroid glands and the kidneys.

    - Angiography and venography. These are utilized to enable imaging and examination of the arteries and veins.

  • Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine utilizes a small amount of radiopharmaceutical introduced into the body enabling special cameras to detect and display specific internal organs, demonstrating shape and function. Virtually every organ system in the pediatric patient can be imaged in some manner and patients can be evaluated from infancy to young adulthood. Frequently, these procedures yield information that is not available by any other imaging method, often at the lowest radiation exposure, and these tests have an extremely high accuracy rate.
